The Mosaic Institute
What's New

At our heart, the Mosaic Institute exists to bring people together, and in doing so, to make the world a better place. For this reason, the emergence of the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic touches us very deeply.

On the one hand, it is a stark reminder that our wellbeing as individuals is inextricably linked to the wellbeing of every other person in the world. On the other hand, it demands that for the time being, Mosaic must build bridges between peoples without the health risks attendant on bringing people together physically.

We are fulfilling our responsibilities to the communities we serve, to our volunteers, to our professional team, and to the world at large by taking the following measures:

  1. The Mosaic team is working from home, and collaborating with one another and with our partners by telephone, videocalls, e-mails, and other online media.

  2. No staff or volunteers will travel internationally for Mosaic, and we will receive no individuals or delegations from abroad.

  3. We will continue to conduct our community dialogues and engagement work, but we will do so through distance technology, such as videoconferencing, rather than through physical meetings.

  4. We have postponed our UofMosaic Fellowship group events with university students, and postponed our Mosaic Next Generation group events with high school students. If health authorities continue to advise Canadians to maintain social distancing precautions for an extended period, we will move some of those events online.

  5. We have postponed our March and April public events. We will consider the schedules for public events beyond that, in light of developments as this month unfolds.

Of course, we are carefully monitoring analyses by the World Health Organization and by Canadian public health authorities, and we are following their advice.

Mosaic was founded on a simple but powerful article of faith: that if we wish to be safe, healthy, and successful individuals, we must work together to build a safe, healthy, and successful world. The spread of COVID-19 is both a confirmation of that belief, and a challenge to it. But it is a challenge we will meet together.

Yours faithfully,

Akaash Maharaj Mosaic Institute CEO
