A Fond Farewell to James P. Muldoon Jr.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that James P. Muldoon Jr., the Vice-Chair of the Mosaic Institute’s Board of Directors passed away peacefully at Princess Margaret Hospital yesterday. He leaves behind his wife, Reeta Roy, and many siblings.
James P. Muldoon Jr. was an independent scholar of international affairs and a senior Fellow (non-residential) with the Center for Global Change and Governance of Rutgers University – Newark. His research and writing focused on multilateral diplomacy, international organizations, and global governance. Mr. Muldoon’s publications include The New Dynamics of Multilateralism: Diplomacy, International Organizations, and Global Governance (Westview Press, 2010), Multilateral Diplomacy and the United Nations Today, second edition (Westview Press, 2005) and The Architecture of Global Governance: An Introduction to the Study of International Organizations (Westview Press, 2004). He has been a guest lecturer on diplomacy and international affairs at universities and research centers around the world and has contributed to major newspapers and academic journals on contemporary international relations and global issues.
James P. Muldoon Jr., affectionately known as Jim by his friends and family, was the Vice-Chair of the Mosaic Institute’s Board of Directors, and the Chair of the Development Committee since 2013. During this time, Jim played an integral role in the guidance, support and development of the organization. Jim’s dedication and leadership was demonstrated by his and Reeta’s early commitment as Peace Cabinet Donors. Jim’s insights and erudition, along with his kindness and humour, will be missed by all who had the pleasure of working with him. Jim’s mentorship will be especially missed by the young Mosaicers who had the opportunity to meet and spend time with him.
To honour Jim’s legacy, the Mosaic Institute is announcing the establishment of the:
James P. Muldoon Jr. Bursary Award
The James P. Muldoon Jr. Bursary will be an annual bursary awarded in memory of Jim. The recipient will be a university student in Canada whose field of study is related to the mission and vision of the Mosaic Institute. Both Jim and Reeta are dedicated to creating a more just, equitable and harmonious world, and in this spirit, the James P. Muldoon Jr. Bursary will be awarded to a promising student who is able to maintain their academic accomplishments despite facing financial hardship and adversity. This distinctive bursary will uphold our shared commitment towards advancing social justice. The inaugural James P. Muldoon Jr. Bursary Award call will be published in the fall with the award to be presented at the Mosaic Institute’s Peace Patron Dinner in May, 2017.
