These days we have only to turn on our televisions, read social media or pick up a newspaper to be reminded how interconnected our world is. Issues, concerns, or conflicts in faraway places that we might once have ignored now seem to visit us on our own doorstep.  At the same time, this interconnectedness gives us the opportunity to build communities of interest, to share information and expertise, and to confront common challenges no matter how many miles may separate us from others.

Since 2007, the Mosaic Institute has been bringing together Canadians of diverse backgrounds to create trust and reduce tensions among communities in Canada and to help find solutions to international conflicts.  In doing so, we are building a stronger Canadian mosaic that can contribute to a more peaceful world.

This is why I am reaching out to you today and asking you to make a donation to support The Mosaic Institute’s groundbreaking research and award-winning programs for youth, such as:

  • Our ”Next Generation” program that engages high school students in a specialized curriculum on global citizenship that was recognized with the 2012 Award of Excellence from the Canadian Race Relations Foundation;
  • Our “UofMosaic” program that addresses conflict on university campuses in Ontario, Quebec and B.C., and that features inter-community “peace dialogues” and global service projects led by university students inspired to work together to address the effects of their common overseas conflicts; and
  • Our two-year “New Beginnings: Young Canadians’ Peace Dialogue on China & Tibet” initiative in Toronto and Calgary that built trust among 250 young Canadians of Han Chinese and Tibetan background, and whose young leaders received the 2014 YMCA Peace Medallion for their efforts.

One of the most rewarding and valuable parts of my involvement with the Mosaic Institute has been to meet and watch the development of passionate, young Canadians who are committed to carrying on Canada’s commitment to peacemaking and “building bridges” between and among communities that for too long have been divided by conflict.  To watch a video message recorded recently by Abdi Hersi, one of the inspiring members of the UofMosaic’s Student Advisory Committee, CLICK HERE.

Right now, your support is pivotal. We must raise $200,000 by the end of the year in order to continue our research and programs. Since we do not receive any government funds in support of our operations, we rely on donations from individuals like you who value and believe in the work of the Institute.

We appreciate all donations. You can donate on-line at www.mosaicinstitute.ca. You can choose to make a one-time gift, or join our monthly giving circle. Convenient monthly donations of $10, $25, $50 or any amount you choose will be automatically made through our CanadaHelps giving portal.  We encourage you to make your donation before December 31 so that you will receive a tax receipt for 2014.

With your support, together, we can build a stronger Canada and a more peaceful world.

Sincerely yours,
